Obelisk Training Webinar 2

Best Practice Recommendations: A Guide to Monogenic Obesity

On the 23rd of September 2026, we held the second in a series of Obelisk training webinars hosted by our partner, the European Childhood Obesity Group (ECOG).

The session, Best Practice Recommendations: A Guide to Monogenic Obesity, was delivered by Obelisk project coordinators Dr Philippe Froguel and Dr Amélie Bonnefond based on their work within Work Package Four of the project. The overall objective of this work is to uncover new and uncommon genetic types of obesity, which could potentially reveal new targets for drug development.

This webinar explored the causes, diagnosis, and management of monogenic obesity, with a focus on early identification, genetic testing, precision medicine, and reducing weight stigma. Speakers discussed current evidence, practical recommendations for healthcare professionals, and the challenges and opportunities in improving care for children and families affected by genetic forms of obesity.

Watch the session to gain a deeper understanding of the genetic and biological factors underlying monogenic obesity, and their implications for diagnosis, treatment and long-term care.
