Postdoctoral Opportunity

The Institut Cochin, a globally renowned biomedical research centre located in the heart of Paris, is pleased to announce a fully funded, two-year postdoctoral research position. This prestigious opportunity offers the chance to work on innovative research in the fields of obesity and type 2 diabetes - two of the most pressing public health challenges of our time.

Focus of the Research

The research will be conducted within the JOCKERS-DAM Team, an international group dedicated to exploring novel therapeutic approaches for metabolic disorders. The project focuses on investigating the role of a newly identified G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) in the regulation of obesity and diabetes. GPCRs represent highly promising drug targets due to their accessibility and established therapeutic potential.

The successful candidate will lead advanced cellular and in vivo studies to uncover the mechanisms of this GPCR regulator. Areas of focus will include:

  • Primary adipocyte culture and cellular signalling studies.
  • Western blot, RT-qPCR, and immunoprecipitation techniques.
  • Confocal microscopy and mitochondrial function analysis.
  • Metabolic profiling and characterisation of transgenic mouse models of obesity.

This cutting-edge research is poised to contribute significantly to the development of novel treatments for obesity and diabetes.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, physiology, or a closely related field. Required expertise includes:

  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture and advanced cell biology techniques (e.g., RT-qPCR, western blot).
  • Experience with microscopy imaging, particularly confocal microscopy.
  • Competence in basic mouse experimentation, including metabolic profiling.
  • Prior experience with adipocyte primary culture is highly desirable.

Applicants should demonstrate excellent organisational skills, scientific rigour, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in English, both written and oral. A collaborative, team-oriented mindset is essential for this role.

Application Process

Interested candidates are invited to submit the following:

  1. A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  2. A letter of motivation detailing relevant experience and research interests.
  3. Reference letter(s) with contact information.

Applications should be sent to Dr. Julie Dam at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 15th February 2025. Early applications are strongly encouraged, as submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
