Alice Maguolo presents her paper at the EASD 2024 meeting
We are excited to share that Alice Maguolo, one of our partners at Lund University is presenting her work: "Insulin levels in pregnant women with obesity are associated with higher abdominal fat deposition in newborns and with DNA methylation in cord blood" at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) 2024 annual meeting taking place in Madrid this year.
Dr Maguolo and her colleagues found that among various maternal metabolic risk factors, early maternal insulin levels were associated with the abdominal/total fat mass ratio in newborns of mothers with obesity. Additionally, early maternal insulin was linked to DNA methylation at two sites in cord blood, which are annotated to genes potentially involved in metabolic programming.
These findings support emerging evidence that early maternal insulin may play a crucial role in offspring adiposity and metabolic programming.
